What are our trackway panels made of?

We make our trackway panels and ground mats using sustainable, recycled, and recyclable materials that provide short or long-term ground protection.

Aluminium Trackway Panels

These panels have no trip hazards, meeting the safety and operational needs of both pedestrians and vehicles. We design our aluminium DTH trackway panels to offer 3-metre-wide temporary access that ensures heavy vehicles can travel safely over harsh terrain.

So, How sustainable is aluminium?

Aluminium is a super sustainable material as it is endlessly recyclable, in fact so recyclable that about 75% of all aluminium ever produced (since the late 19th century) is still in use. When people recycle aluminium, they use 95% less energy to produce secondary metal compared to the energy required to produce the same weight of primary metal.

It isn’t uncommon for aluminium production smelters to have their own power stations on site. One of the main smelters used to produce aluminium in the UK is in Scotland, it utilises hydroelectricity from its own plant which also provides to the local town. Alfed.org stated recently that around 50% of the energy used to produce primary aluminium, worldwide, comes from sustainable hydroelectric power.

plastic track mats materials being used

HDPE ground protection mats

Manufacturers design HDPE ground protection mats to provide flexible yet tough access roadways for use over bad ground conditions. These mats are suitable for medium-duty access. They are also ideal for reducing the risk of sensitive grassed surfaces such as sports pitches, gardens, and playing fields in event cases.

These heavy-duty track mats can be installed quickly and safely by just two people, with no need for tools or plant. The chevroned surface provides traction, minimising slip risk and increasing safety precautions.

Tuff Trak

The Tuff Track is designed for heavy plant and machinery, and can support up to 150 tonne loads. This dual-sided plastic ground mat is suitable for use as a crane pad or roadway.

How sustainable is HDPE?

The process of making and moulding HDPE is far more environmentally friendly than many other industrial processes. HDPE contains between 25% and 100% recycled pre-consumer material and is 100% recyclable as it can quite easily melted back into its liquid form and re-purposed into something else. Producing or recycling it is relatively affordable, and manufacturers can finish it in many colours, textures, and opacity levels.

It’s a fantastic material for use outdoors due to its solid plastic construction, it is water and weatherproof and extremely low maintenance. The material is strong enough to withstand heavy impact and chemical damage.
