Temp ground solution for Scottish Rugby Union pitch

The project

Our Davis Trackhire team supplied the Scottish Rugby Union with a comprehensive temporary ground solution. They had a planned, huge increase in footfall and traffic. This was for the Men’s Scotland Rugby Team’s Six Nations Test matches against England and France. Due to this, temporary access for parking and pedestrian walkways was essential.

The location

Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh.

Temp ground solution challenges & our resolution

Temp ground solution challenges & our resolution

Over 100,000 fans were expected to attend over 2 weeks. It was imperative for our client, to protect, the state-of-the-art artificial training pitch from pedestrians and vehicles, located next to the 67,000-capacity stadium. In addition to this, they required the temp ground solution to be as flat as possible, free of any trip hazards.

Following an in-depth site survey by our experienced Project Engineer, George Allan, we specified 132 of our industry-leading aluminium DTH Panels. Furthermore, counter-sunk fixings and overlapping male/female ends to create a continuously flat, flush and trip-free access were also essential. Our team ensured seamless access and egress for vehicles by cloaking the edges with PVC cloaking mats. Finally, we complemented these with our medium-duty reversible DTH Mats, laying them smooth-side up with a depth of just 12mm. And so, this created a safe pedestrian and wheelchair-friendly access temp ground solution.

Our service & temp ground solution

Our service & temp ground solution

All in all, with the swift and effective installation of our temp ground solution (Aluminium Panels and DTH mats) we were able to support The Scottish Rugby Union with over 100,000 fans attending Murrayfield over the two test matches. Our service and DTH trackway products ensured that parking and access around the site ran efficiently. We contributed immensely to providing safety for all in attendance and protecting the training pitch.

“I was pleased with the professional attitude of the men on site, and they didn’t need a lot of my attention to get the job done, which is always welcome when I’m busy myself.”
