Since our birth back in 2010, Davis Trackhire has quickly developed a reputation amongst festival and event organisers as one of the most professional and customer-focused in the industry. These qualities were displayed in abundance when we were contracted to provide protection to the playing surface at Newcastle United FC’s St James Park Stadium when it hosted a concert by American rock band Kings Of Leon back in 2014.
Tasked with installing a 4,000m2 pitch cover to create a stage compound and additional seating for thousands of fans, the first obstacle to overcome was to safely transport all 545 aluminium DTH panels into the arena. This involved navigating our wagons through the tight stadium entrance, which meant lowering the vehicles’ suspension in order to negotiate the tight access.
Our 6-man crew worked tirelessly over the next 2 days to complete the installation ready for the construction of the stage. By using our highly advanced aluminium DTH Panels – designed specifically for connector bolts and plates to be encased within the panel – we were able to create a completely flush surface with zero trip hazards, allowing tens of thousands of fans to safely dance the night away.
The recovery commenced immediately after the conclusion of the concert, with the pitch completely clear, unharmed and ready for action just two days later.
“This was our first full pitch cover installation at a major sporting venue, and definitely one that we are proud to have been involved in. As we were working in conjunction with other contractors on this event we had to work to strict deadlines during the installation and recovery, but our highly-skilled crews worked exceptionally hard and were able to deliver the project ahead of schedule.”Travis Davis, Director of Davis Trackhire,
