Davis Trackhire invests in staff with new HGV Class 1 qualification

At Davis Trackhire, we’re proud to invest in our people and support them in developing their careers. That’s why we’re delighted to announce the latest in a long line of Davis Trackhire employees to progress through the ranks of the business, with Liam “Smudge” Smith successfully gaining his HGV Class 1 licence, marking another significant milestone in his journey with the company.

Liam joined Davis Trackhire in May 2023 as a Driver’s Mate, bringing with him a positive attitude, strong work ethic and a determination to learn. Since then, he has continued to develop his skills and knowledge within the business, taking full advantage of the opportunities available to him.

Step-by-Step progression through HGV qualifications

In September 2025, Liam successfully achieved his HGV Class 2 licence, allowing him to progress into a driving role and gain valuable experience operating our fleet. Less than a year later, he has now taken the next step by obtaining his HGV Class 1 qualification, opening up even more opportunities within the logistics and transport side of the business.

Commitment to training and internal career development

Liam’s achievement is a fantastic example of Davis Trackhire’s commitment to promoting from within and investing in the long-term development of our team. We believe that by providing training, support and clear progression pathways, we can help our employees build rewarding careers while strengthening the service we deliver to our customers.

Developing talent from within has always been a key part of the company’s approach, with numerous members of the transport team having started in more junior roles before advancing their careers through training, mentoring and hands-on experience. By investing in its people, Davis Trackhire continues to build a highly skilled workforce while creating genuine opportunities for career progression.

Leadership perspective on Liam’s progression

Liam’s progression over the last three years has been fantastic to see. He joined us as a Driver’s Mate with a willingness to learn and has consistently demonstrated the commitment and determination needed to develop his career. Liam is the latest example of how we develop talent from within at Davis Trackhire. We’re passionate about creating opportunities for our people to progress, and it’s always rewarding to see someone take advantage of those opportunities and succeed.”
