Aluminium panels keep tricky telecoms site on track
At Davis Trackhire we thrive on being involved in complex and challenging projects and pride ourselves on our high standards of health and safety, and our recent installation for a leading Telecommunications contractor on a remote site in Northumberland was no different.
Having been approached by one of our regular customers to provide several hundred of our aluminium DTH Panels to create haul roads and crane pads across two different sites to allow them to replace two masts, we sent one of our highly experienced Field Engineers to meet the client on site and conduct a full site survey in order to ascertain the site conditions and identify the most suitable and cost-effective solution for the project in question.
The first thing that was identified on site was that the panels were to be laid alongside a steep camber – meaning that a Site Supervisor was required to safely oversee the installation and recovery. The site was also very uneven so it was vital to identify the flattest and safest route from the site entrance to the mast. The very tight access to the site also meant that our crews had to install a temporary compound in an adjacent field to allow them to off-load the panels.
With only a two-day window to install the access in less than ideal weather conditions, we allocated an additional crew to ensure the installation was completed on time for the customer to come in with a 25tn capacity crane to carry out the tower swap, before we returned to site three weeks later to begin recovering the access.
Needless to say, the installation, hire and recovery all went flawlessly, leaving a very happy customer whose Construction Manager was highly complimentary of Davis Trackhire’s service on their latest project:
